ÇAĞAN IRMAK

Director and screenwriter Çağan Irmak was born on April 4, 1970 in İzmir. He won the Sedat Simavi Award with the short films he made while studying at the Department of Radio-TV and Cinema at Ege University. He made a name for himself all over Turkey with television serials such as Günaydın İstanbul Kardeş, Şaşıfelek Çıkmazı, Asmalı Konak, Çemberimde Gül Oya, which he directed or wrote and directed. He crowned his professional career with music clips, short films such as Atatürk in My Dreams and Play Old and Wise for Me, and nearly 20 feature films such as Everything About Mustafa, My Father and My Son, The Desolate Man, My Grandfather’s People, Whisper Als Ik Het Forget, and Love Mandatory Direction.

Although he won the “Best Film Award” at the Rhode Island Film Festival (USA) in 2009 with Issız Adam (The Desolate Man), Babam ve Oğlum (My Father and My Son) was Irmak’s main product that made its mark hit the movie history.

Considered a milestone in the history of Turkish cinema, My Father and My Son won several awards for best screenplay, best director, best actor, best actress and best supporting actor. Evanthia Reboutsika, who composed the score for My Father and My Son, won the 2006 World Film Music Award.
