Eddy Terstall studied sociology and political science at the University of Amsterdam, but did not complete both studies. In 1992 he made his debut with the film Transit. Terstall writes the scenarios for his films himself. Typical Terstall actors are Marc van Uchelen, Nadja Hüpscher and Rifka Lodeizen, who are acted in several films of his. Terstall about his intentions: My films are not necessarily political, but they are secretly pamphletty. I want to show that gay marriage, euthanasia and drug policy are natural here.
Between 2004 and 2008 he published a triptych on the themes of death, sexuality and the rule of law. Simon (2004) was the first film from that triptych. The second part, Sextet, came out in September 2007 and the third volume, Vox Populi, appeared in September 2008. In 2010 he was diagnosed to skin cancer. He described this episode in his autobiographical book “I walk or I fly”.
